Sindarin Word Review

Ambarkas #4249

Would adarchan work as a Sindarin word for "uncle", or would it have to be adarchanar?

Interesting, here are some from VL. These was brought up by Orondil: Using the archaic †hawn [kʰāno] "brother".

  • adarchon - paternal uncle (lit. father-brother)
  • adarnith - paternal aunt (lit. father-sister)
  • emelchon - maternal uncle (lit. mother-brother)
  • emellith - maternal aunt (lit. mother-sister)

and Eleran:

  • Q. Peratar ⪤ S. Peradar "Uncle"
  • Q. Peramil ⪤ S. Peremel "Aunt"

Could be viewed as "step-father/mother" though.

I also wonder if we could use the archaic Noldorin †tôr n. “brother”? Although it might be confused with land/king that we have in Sindarin so it may not be the best choice.
