The word Mearas comes from Old English mēaras, simply meaning "horses". Its singular form would be mearh or marh.
There is no equivalent of it in Sindarin or Quenya. It would either have to be adapted into each language or simply use roch "horse".
Shadowfax was considered to be a Mearas, one of the few remaining horses that came from a breed in Valinor (and presumably brought over by the Feanorian Noldor unless Orome's horses had an especially good time visiting Middle-earth).
So, surely, the Sindar and Noldor would have a world for this special breed.
Perhaps Horses of the Light, since the breed would have come from horses born in the time of the Two Trees?
In Quenya, the Calaquendi were the Elves of the Light, the ones who had seen the Two Trees. So, a single horse from the breed from Valinor might be called a Calarocco, with the plural being Calarocci.
Likewise, I read that Calbin was the Sindarin translation of Calaquendi. I think that makes it calroch (s)/ calrych (p).
Thoughts?
I suppose anything is possible but we would not know for sure. I would have suggested Arroch "noble-horse" but it is already used.
Calroch (sg.) Celrych (pl.) is possible name.
