    Hello, I need help with some names, to translate them into Quenya. Excuse my English, I have used google translator, because my English is not very good.

    Amélie - Means "worker". In Quenya work it would be "Móta-" could then be translated as Mótiel, Mótë or Mótallë ???

    Lucia/Lucy- It means "Light". In Quenya Light it would be “Cala”, “Calma” or “Calë”. Could then be translated as Calië, Calmë, or Calien ???

    Vera- means Faith or Truth. Faith in Quenya would be "Vórima" or "Voronda". It could then be translated as Vórimë or Vorondë. Truth in Quenya would be "Anwa" or "Naitë". Could it be translated as Anwë??

    Leonor. It means "God is my Light." In Quenya God would be “Erú” / me “ná” / Light “Cala”, “Calma” or “Calë”. Could it be translated as Erúnacalë or Erúnacalmë?

    Azahara- Means "beautiful woman like a flower". In Quenya Woman it is “nisë”, “nis” or “-iël” / Pretty or Beauty “Vánima” or “Netya” / Flower “indil” or “lótë”. Could it be translated as Vanimavelótiël, Netyavelótïel, Netyaveindiliël,…?

    Other sources say that it comes from "other-Aenor" and the meaning of "aenor" is not clear but it is possibly "famous for its wealth". If we translate "other-Aenor" as "another famous for its wealth". In Quenya "other" = exa? // hyana. "Famous" I have not found a translation in Quenya, only "glorious" = alcarinqua / "known" = Sína. "Wealth" in Quenya would be soul. What would your translation be like then?

    There is no "problem" with my argument.

    The following is from Tolkien himself in Appendix E of LOTR:

    "C has always the value of k even before e and i: celeb ‘silver’ should be pronounced as keleb ."

    Thus, when transcribing the Tengwar script into a Roman script, you do not use "k", you use "c."

    It is not "Rike", it is "Ricë."

    If I am understanding the language properly, there is no "k" in Sindarin.

    "c" is always hard like in cake.

    Thus the phonetic rendering of "ke" in Rike and luke is rendered as "cë."

  • I Am the Light of the World

    So I am new here and am trying to get used to this wonderful world of elvish language.

    I am trying to translate the following passage:

    "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."

    Initially I attempted to do a word for word translation using the dictionary as a reference, but it simply did not translate very well. So what I did was rephrase the passage to the following:

    The world’s light, I am. He/Anyone that follows me, in darkness (shall not) walk, but (shall ) have the light of life.

    I then translated that to the following:

    In ambar cala nányë. Essë / Nassë ta nurni, imi lúmë, uva pata, anat harya in cala o laulë.

    I know the grammar may be off, but as I said, this was my first attempt at trying to understand the language.

    Hey Elaran, I am new to the site and I am very interested in learning the languages. As such I have taken a stab at the translation. Rather than doing a word for word translation and to avoid grammar issues, I went ahead and edited the phrase to: Flee fear, fear kills the mind.

    Would the following be an appropriate translation?

    Drego thoss, thoss dâg ind.

  • Feast of Starlight

    Your dictionary has been really helpful! I've been searching everywhere for the correct translation to the Tauriel and Kili song from The Hobbit. The written version is not the actual song version. The very last verse in the song ends with a different line (which is written out in the piano book with no translation):

    Am na dhu Yas Fir I ambar Alt meleth nin yu nin

    I've figured out all of the translations with the exception of the last line "alt meleth nin yu nin"". With your dictionary I've figured meleth is love and nin is me or mine. Any ideas as to what the translation could be? Thank you for all your hard work!
