naraka
adjective. harsh, rending, violent of (?sounds)
An adjective in The Etymologies of the 1930s glossed “harsh, rending, violent”, with the last of these followed by a difficult-to-read qualifier “of (?sounds)” according to Carl Hostetter and Patrick Wynne (Ety/NÁRAK; EtyAC/NÁRAK). It was derived from primitive ᴹ✶narāka under the root ᴹ√NARAK “tear, rend (tr. and intr.)”.
