Early Quenya

soron

noun. pinnacle, high peak, crag

A word in the Qenya Lexicon of the 1910s glossed “a high peak, a pinnacle or crag” given as a derivative of ᴱ√ŠORO [ÞORO] “eagle” (QL/86). It was glossed “pinnacle” in the Poetic and Mythological Words of Eldarissa (PME/86). In later writings, Q. soron was a word for “eagle” itself as opposed to a place where eagles roosted.

sorto-

verb. to set, settle

A verb appearing as sorto- “set, settle” in the Qenya Lexicon of the 1910s under the early root ᴱ√SORO [ÐORO] (QL/85). This replaced another form sosto- that was revised to sorto- when the root was changed from ᴱ√SOŘO [SOÐO] to ᴱ√SOŘO [ÐORO] (QL/86). The other form had an extra (deleted) gloss which might be “place”.
