gwithadr

noun. shuttle

The Gnomish Lexicon of the 1910s had G. gwithadr and gwithant “shuttle” based the early root ᴱ√gu̯iđ (GL/46).

Neo-Sindarin: Tolkien had a later root √WIR for “weave”, so I’d update these Gnomish words to ᴺS. gwirthar “shuttle” = √WIR + √THAR, (lit.) “weave-across”.
