Beware, older languages below! The languages below were invented during Tolkien's earlier period and should be used with caution. Remember to never, ever mix words from different languages!

Early Quenya

túpo

noun. roof, cover, lid

A word appearing as ᴱQ. tūpo “roof, cover, lid” in the Qenya Lexicon of the 1910s, derived from the early root ᴱ√TUPU having to do with things covered (QL/95).

Neo-Quenya: Since √TUP “cover over” survives in Tolkien’s later writings, I would retain the noun ᴺQ. túpo for purposes of Neo-Quenya, but only for the senses “cover, lid”. For “roof” I would use telumë or [ᴹQ.] tópa.
