I agree that this is the probable Quenya reflex of *silimarinā > silivren, but I don’t think we need to coin more words for either “white” or “glittering”, at least as I view them, neologisms are primarily meant to fill gaps. I’ll ask Aldaleon what he thinks.

Fair enough. I devised it for the sake of translating A Elbereth Gilthoniel into Quenya, but perhaps a different word might be used. I think I'll refrain from making any changes until Aldaleon says what he has to say.

I understand where you're going with this, but I'd be hesitant to add it for the same reason as Gilruin's, as well as the fact that silmaril has near-aetherial connotations in Elvish lore.

Possibly. Though I'm not sure what would fit in place of it, while maintaining the meter of the original A Elbereth Gilthoniel. Unless you might have something in mind? If not, then it might be best to put it on the back burner, figuratively speaking.

I'd be fine with it being used to maintain the meter of the original A Elbereth Gilthoniel! My reservation is only the addition of it to the dictionary as there are attested words with the same meaning already available.

If you'd like to update your translation to use silmarin, it's actually possible to link to the word in Sindarin and then use the comment field to explain what you did to convert it to Quenya! I can help you with this, although I imagine this is probably long forgotten at this point.
