A name for "fading leaf"

Lastor #4354

Hello, I found the Sindarin name "Pelilas", which according to the website realelvish.net is supposed to mean "Fading Leaf". I tried to cross-reference it using AI, but it said the translation is incorrect, so now I'm confused.

Not only am I trying to find out whether Pelilas actually means "fading leaf", but I'm also trying to find the Quenya translation for the same name. I came up with "lassë nieri", but someone told me it should be Quellasse.

Can anyone help me out? There seem to be a lot of contradictions here and I want to be sure it's correct. I'd prefer it if the name was gender-neutral or has a female suffix. Thank you!

Mae govannen, I would not trust any AI with any Elvish. And Fiona's site is one of the best.

Although this name might be updated to pelillas due to nl > ll. pelin+lass.

Or √KWEL+lass > Pellas

Mae govannen!

You'd probably get something along the lines of Lasbelol or Lasfirol in Sindarin.

Lasbelol = las (leaf) + pel- (to fade) + -ol (-ing), with soft mutation because "fading" is an adjective. The same goes for Lasfirol, but fir- has more of a "dying" connotation, and f does not undergo soft mutation.

Both of these names are inherently gender-neutral, and would get a little unwieldy with the addition of a feminine suffix. Technically, though, you could do something like Lasbelolwen/Lasfirolwen or Lasbeloleth/Lasfiroleth.

If you omit the participial bits, you could also have Pellas or Firilas, with specifically feminine forms Pellassel/Firilassil or Pellasseth/Firilasseth.

I'm not sure how you came up with lassë nieri, as that would mean something like leaf honeybees? As a Quenya name, Fading Leaf could indeed translate to Quellassë, Sintalassë, or Vindalassë. Specifically feminine forms could include Quellassiel, but any of these names could be taken as feminine forms due to the ë at the end.

As always, I recommend a second opinion!

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer me!

I'm very interested in Sindarin and Quenya, so I'll probably be skulking around here for a while.
