Grammatical names in Quenya

Gandalphus #4821

Hello! Do you know grammatical names in Quenya for "genitive", "feminine", "masculine", "possessive", "allative", "ablative", "dative", "gerund", "participle", "pronoun", "prefixe", "noun", "adjetive", "passive", "subjuctive", "imperative" and "adverb"? Thank you!

We do not have attested (=made by Tolkien) words for the majority of these, and we only have neologisms for few others (and there are often multiple competing neologisms with no real consensus).

From what I can easily find, the following are attested (which does not necessarily mean that they can be used without first considering to what extent they fit in with late material):

  • mestanyatse "suffixation" (note - not "suffix"!)

  • mittande "infixion, intrusion, insertion"

  • hanuvoite "masculine"

  • inimeite "feminine"

The following are neologisms found on Eldamo:

  • yestanyatse "prefixion"

  • cariquetta "verb"

  • lusse "tense"

    • aralusse "aorist tense"

    • qualusse "perfect tense"

    • silusse "present tense"

    • tulusse "future tense"

    • vanwalusse "past tense"

You might be able to find other terms if you search the dictionary (either here or on Eldamo). There were also suggested neologisms such as nat or esse for "noun" which never made it to any dictionaries due to lack of consensus. You would have to join VL and search there to find more suggestions and ideas for grammatical terms. However, as is probably clear by now, you are not likely to find ready-to-use Neo-Quenya words for all of these.

Thanks! I supposed it was as you say. I really do not need so many terms, but it would be fine to have them when talking about the language itself (as the master Rúmil would do). When speaking in Quenya, how do you say "you are wrong, it is not genitive, but just accusative"?
