• Re-enabled wildcard support for search terms. If you write aw*th it should henceforth yield awarth, wheras *aw would yield a words ending with aw, e.g. aw, baw, daw, gaw, maw etc.
• Increased comment field size.
• Added a polyfill for requestAnimationFrame to enable scrolling animations for Android devices.

Hello everyone,

I apologise for the relatively poor performance the last couple of weeks. I investigated the matter and determined that it was an AI bot that was nearly overloading the website trying to scrape our database.

On a related note, it's wild that most of the traffic nowadays serve bots. Everyone seems to be interacting with AI agents!

I've remediated the issue and sincerely hope it won't be an issue going forward.

Change log 2025-07-18:

This was a major backend update and the website didn't quite work as expected during the update from approximately 1AM through 1:20AM PST. Apologies!

• Enhanced bot protection, requiring e-mail verification before you can post in Discuss.
• Significant backend changes - please report things not working! I've done thorough testing but with this major bootstrapping update, I wouldn't be surprised if something doesn't quite behave as expected.
• Compatibility patch for the latest version of Eldamo - will start import soon.
• Bug fixes to Sage.

Edit: It's still broken in Safari (Mac/iOS) and I have absolutely no idea what's wrong. It's 2:30AM now so I'm shelving this until tomorrow. Please use Chrome, Edge, Brave or Firefox instead.

Change log 2025-07-18 (evening):

Service restored. I applied for the long outage. I worked overtime to restore the service but the root cause was one of the most complicated ones I've encountered in this project.

I'll continue to monitor the recovery!

• Enabled thumbs up for accounts that have yet to verify their e-mail. It's harmless enough.
• Improved search ranking algorithm.
• Improved UI/UX to clarify that you may have to verify your e-mail to access certain features.

• Fixed an issue that prevent some users from posting to Discuss, claiming they didn't have permission to do so. Everyone who has verified their e-mail address should have access to Discuss now!
