A river flowing through Rivendell, translated “Loudwater” (LotR/200), a combination of (otherwise unattested) brui “loud” and nen “water”.
Conceptual Development: This river was already named N. Bruinen “Loudwater” when it first appeared in Lord of the Rings drafts from the 1940s (TI/14, 296).
