Gnomish

sôn

noun. craft, skill

A noun in the Gnomish Lexicon of the 1910s glossed “craft, skill”, related to G. sana- “know how to” (GL/67-68). Tolkien indicated it applied to “all senses” of the words, so presumably it applied to both physical and mental skills. Tolkien labeled this noun with a “²” to distinguish it from the adjective G. sôn “clean”.
