sindarin translation

Dinen #2271

if anyone minds checking my work, would i be able to use "erandir" to mean "lone/lonely wanderer" in Sindarin, using the root er, or would i need to work off of S. ereb to get "erebrandir" or something similar? unless "randir" alone can imply the meaning. thank you!

I’d say both erandir and erebrandir can work, the latter indeed playing safe to get “lonely” instead of “single, alone”

  • -rr- in er + randir is a bit of an unclear matter. It remains in hîr + -rim → hirrim (in Rochirrim, Gonnhirrim), Orrain or unclear etymology and ar- + rochArroch, but sometimes reduces to a single -r- like in aglar + rondAglarond. I think one can defend both.
  • -br- is an allowed cluster in Sindarin (e. g. celeb + rantCelebrant). Depending on how ancient you want the name to be, you could undo the a-affection in erikwā > ereb (which doesn’t happen if the a isn’t final) producing Eribrandir.

i was wondering if the double "rr" would be viable! thank you, this is great
